Cookie Policy

Last updated:

This page explains the cookies and similar storage this site uses.

A cookie is a small file a website stores in your browser so it can recognise your browser on a later visit. Related technologies, such as local storage, do a similar job. This policy covers both.

What we use

Strictly necessary. Needed for the site to work — security and load balancing. These cannot be switched off.

Preferences. Your chosen language and your light or dark theme setting. These live in your browser’s local storage, not on our servers, and exist so the site does not forget your choice between visits.

Analytics. Aggregate measurement of which pages are read and how people arrive. We use this to decide what to write next. Where the law requires consent, these are not set until you give it.

Affiliate attribution. When you follow a link to a provider, that provider may set a cookie so the referral can be attributed to us. This is what pays for the site. The cookie is set by the provider, on their domain, under their policy.

Controlling cookies

Every major browser lets you see the cookies stored, delete them, and block new ones — usually under Settings, then Privacy. You can also browse in a private window, which clears everything when you close it.

Blocking cookies will not stop you reading anything here. It may mean the site forgets your language and theme each visit.

Do Not Track

Browsers differ in how they signal a tracking preference and there is no agreed standard for honouring it. We keep non-essential tracking to a minimum regardless of the signal your browser sends.
